Busy times ahead
It’s been a busy few with work, events and mates visiting. Now it’s me time. I’m heading next weekend to Edinburgh for the weekend. I’ve never been and looking forward to. Few facts, dad was born there and then moved to London and I’m going to be supporting Leinster at the Heineken Cup final. I know there are others who’d support the opposition, I’d rather support the next Irish team. Unfortunately my red army didn’t make it to the final this year.
Sunday morning bright and early, clearly I wasn’t awake when I booked these tickets, I’ve a 9am flight to Barcelona and I’m staying here. Cannot wait. I’m going there on holidays, but also to attend UDS. I’ve never been to a UDS before, so looking forward to it. I’m really hoping it doesn’t rain or I’m be royally pissed!
So what is a UDS…
At the beginning of a new development cycle, Ubuntu developers from around the world gather to help shape and scope the next release of Ubuntu. The summit is open to the public, but it is not a conference, exhibition or other audience-oriented event. Rather, it is an opportunity for Ubuntu developers, who usually collaborate online, to work together in person on specific tasks.
Small groups of developers will participate in short forums and workshops (formerly called “BoF”/Birds-of-a-Feather) sessions. This is where a single project is discussed and documented in a written specification. These specifications will be used for planning the new release of Ubuntu.
So the one I am attending is for Karmic Koala. I am also hoping to see some of Barcelona while I am there.
In the past I’ve had a hiccup one way or another flying with delays by airlines, weather induced, flights cancelled, rescheduled or what not, so I’m hoping things run smoothly as I’ve a rake of flights to get to and from Edinburgh, Barcelona.
